What is Pseudoscience?

The dictionary definition of pseudoscience is this:

"A collection of beliefs or practices mistakenly regarded as being based on the scientific method."

While the term pseudoscience is usually used to describe smaller branches of science that don't really have a factual basis, I prefer to define it in a different way, which will be used throughout this website.

"Including the use of nonfactual, or bogus techniques to make unscientific information appear genuine."

This definition allows much more flexibility for my purposes.  I believe pseudoscience to be claims that are flawed and embellished.  These flaws can be exhibited in a variety of techniques that will be discussed in the next tab.

Why is it important to this discussion?

Pseudoscience and the techniques it consists of are relevant to the discussion of awareness because it's another form of deceit that most people don't notice right away.  The techniques that it consists of are used in order to deceive, sell, and otherwise manipulate information for the wrongful benefit of someone or an organization.

These techniques along with statistics and numbers are among the most common ways that information is misportrayed.
